What is a zip file?

Zip file is a file format which contains one or more files compressed together. The format was introduced on 1989 and on February 14,  1989 was released to the public to replace ARC compressed format.

Why zip files?

1. To simplify file sharing especially when sending or sharing many files at once to another device. Zip format helps us to share more than one file at once by compressing them together into a single file instead of send each file independently. For example, you want to send 20 files to someone via email, instead of sending each file independently, you can zip them all and send them as a single file.

2. To avoid loss of files.

3. To reduce storage use in devices and servers as the file size reduced after being compressed into a zip folder.

4. To simplify downloading process. We can download more than one file per single click instead of downloading every file independently.
