Redirect error has recently been reported by many bloggers especially who uses blogspot platform as their CMS.

In most cases, this error leads to the loss of traffic to most of blogs which faced it.

Redirect error

What is redirect error?

Redirect error is an alert in Google Search Console that notifies you that a respective URL is redirected to another URL. This means that when Google bots or visitors open it they are taken to another URL.

In most cases, this error makes your new blog posts not to be indexed by Google and also you can experience traffic drop in your blog.

You might be wondering to see the redirect error status on your Google Search Console while you didn't redirect any of your posts to another URL.

Don't panic, sometimes things are just happening by the mistakes of Google itself.

What causes redirect error in Google Search Console?

As i said above, this error is there to notify you that your page or blog post is redirected to another URL, thus, in this case, the following might be reasons.

  1. You might have done redirection manually by your self or
  2. Just a glitch from Google itself.

1. Manual URL redirection

In case you have done URL redirection and letter on you see this error in your Search Console, you might have done it wrongly. What you have to do is to check your redirection, make sure the redirection chain is not long.

However, this is not a reason to most of blogs, because most of bloggers get this alert even though they've not redirected their pages. Lets jump in to a second reason.

2. Google's glitch

If you didn't redirect any of your URLs but you see a redirect error status on Google Search Console, it means Google bots get confused with mobile URL version and desktop URL version of your blog.

Actually, Blogger blogs show blog posts with two different URL versions depending on a device used to open a particular URL, a desktop version and a mobile version. A mobile version URL ends with "?m=1" tag while a desktop version doesn't have this tag.

When you open a blog post with a computer you will be directed to the desktop version URL which looks like https://myblog.com/blogpost.html, but if you use a phone to open it, you will be directed to the mobile version URL which looks like https://myblog.com/blogpost.html?m=1.

The redirect error for blogger (blogspot) blogs seems to be caused by these two versions of URL. When Google bots open the desktop version URL are redirected to mobile version URL.

In this case to solve this error, navigate your search console account, check the affected pages (URLs) and resubmit them with a mobile version URL (just put ?m=1 tag at the end of URLs).

After resubmitting them, they will be indexed within few hours. But note that, the redirect error notification will take some weeks to disappear.

Make sure you submit your new posts with mobile version URL too.
