Risks of not having job description

Job description is a very important tool to any organization. Lacking it may lead to some negative effects as explained below.

1. A wrong person could be hired

Job description outlines the required qualifications for a job. The recruiters use them to attract best candidates to apply for a job but also filtering the candidates who applied for a job so as to get the best one(s). Thus if there is no job description recruiters may hire a wrong person who may not fit in a job.


2. Unaccountability

The expectations outline in a job description helps to raise employees accountability. Employees will put their effort to reach the goals and expectations. If there is no job description means no defined roles, responsibilities and expectations thus employees won't be accountable in their jobs.


3. Poor performance management

One of  the uses of job description is to manage employees performance. Thus in this case if there is no job description there will be poor performance management.


4. Indiscipline

A job description can also be used in maintaining the employees discipline by showing them the areas where they do wrong. Thus, if there is no job description, may lead to indiscipline.


5. Failing to Identify the training needs

Job description is an important tool for evaluating performance and identifying the areas where employee don't perform well. Therefore if there is no job description employers won't be able to Identify the areas where employees perform poorly thus fail to identify training needs.
