Bamboos are the fastest growing plant on the earth. In fact, bamboos are not trees as most of people probably think, but they are grasses. Yes! bamboos are the largest grasses and they are scientifically belong to poaceae family which comprises 115 genera and 1400 species of grasses.
Bamboo grows faster than any kind of plant you know on the earth. Certain species of bamboo can grow up to 1 miter or more just in a single day. A Japanese giant timber bamboo also known as "Phyllostachys bambusoides" can grow up to 120 centimeters (1.2 miters) within 24 hours.

The longest bamboo specie in the world is Dendrocalamus sinicus, also known as “Giant Dragon Bamboo”, it can reach the length of 46 meters (151 ft) and the width of about 36 centimeters (14 In). While most of trees spend some years to mature, it only takes 3 to 4 months for most of bamboos to mature and reach the maximum height.

Bamboo plants are used for variety of purposes. Bamboos are used as a livestock food, but also used as raw materials of some products like papers, baskets and household containers. In some societies especially in Asia, bamboos are used as a source of food, whereby the seeds of some species are eaten as grain, and the cooked young shoot of some bamboos are eaten as vegetables. Some African societies use to drink juice extracted from the young bamboos, the juice is alcoholic and is sometimes termed as a traditional beer.
