While human beings sleep 8 to 12 hours, snails can stay asleep in their shells for almost three (3) years at once, this process is known as torpor. Actually, this is not a sleeping for resting and refreshing the body as human beings and other creatures usually do, but they do so to keep the moisture in their body when the weather is too hot. Snails needs moisture to survive, thus in hot seasons they hide themselves in their shells to prevent their body's moist from drying out.
